Whiskey & Honey

WHISKEY & HONEY
My wars become my wandering,
these signs my southern cross
that point the wrong direction
and leave me at a loss
the clock's hand lost the hour
in the dark side of the night;
now I know time is relative
but I won’t give up this fight
I'm out of cures for this disease
so pass that whiskey if you please,
and more is more, no more, no less,
but less is more, well more or less
but this lady, oh she knows
what it takes to kill a man
she’s seen the way that fear can lie
but also save a life;
You let her bleed but oh, she's drunk on you
though she's only tasted half of you,
but the heart was meant to bleed
so it can heal without regret;
She's inside outside upside down
but your whiskey tastes like honey after all
My mother tongue becomes my quest
the horizon dead man's gold;
your interruptions shed a light
on the thistles on my road
My reason holds this madness
in the known and the unknown
my brittle love becomes my bones
and leaves me to my own

Devil's Peak
03:45
|
|||
There was a one-eyed man
who sailed the seven seas
but now his ship had sailed;
And he was half insane
he had himself to blame
so he fled to the hills each day to blow of some steam;
And when the sun was low
he took a walk up to his usual spot
he met a man up there
a faceless stranger
only god knows from where;
And as he stoked his pipe
squinting his one eye,
he simply suggested to the nameless man:
"Why don't we dance a little?"
♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫
And then the devil said:
" I'd give you all this land,
as far as you can see"
‘cos he knew the old man had
tricked him once before
when he stuck his hand
inside a dead man's chest;
For when the tide was low
he took a walk down to his usual spot,
he dug a deep, deep hole
to the place where he buried his soul;
And as he stoked his pipe
pulling down his hat
he simply suggested to the one-eyed man:
"Why don't we dance a little?"
♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫
And until this day
when the south-eastern plays
and the mountain top
goes up in smoke,
all the town folk say
that old man and the devil
is at it again
smoking their sorrows away…

Goodbye Mr. Jones
03:57
|
|||
I'm leaving you
What am I to do?
Darlin’ we're through -
what's left to pursue
if I'm always losing you?
In time we'll forget,
in time we'll regret
that I had you let me
stand in the middle of your own cross road
with a sign 'round my neck that said: " Nowhere to go"
Why did you let yourself deny ?
Now I turn around and say goodbye
I'm leaving you
I'm through with you -
the time's overdue
and we missed that cue,
now we can't undo
And I regret (but what good would that do?)
the day we have met
‘cos now I'm in debt
with myself 'cos I've let you
stand in the middle of my way to go
now I turn around and say, 'No, No'
now I leave all my wars and my worries behind
now I close my eyes and say goodbye
I'm leaving you

You've Got a Hold on Me
03:25
|
|||
I almost broke it
'cos I thought it was broken
and I thought I should fix it
but god knows I've tried…
and honey
the hold you have on me -
Is it love?
Or is it addiction
to the way that you move me?
One thing I know:
You got a hold on me,
Hold me honey
'cos the tune we are singing
is flat and out of key.

Mother Tongue
04:31
|
|||
Extract from me the symmetry
but don't dilute the memory
of those precious things
between these strings;
Oh let me bleed into these sheets
between the lines, where our tongues meet
and let me seep
into this beat;
Born long before the moon and sun,
before the tower of Babylon,
before the first real heart that beat,
before the first real voice or breath:
The music moved us,
it is our mother tongue
let’s erase the sound and silence of
misinterpretation
And this be not the end of it
and we must all be hypocrites
if we don't speak,
if we don't move
past the sound of ancient wars,
the harm that had been done before -
towards the sound
of mutual ground
